I’m Back Again. Again. (Two Five Zero 009)
Fifty-four weeks ago: After many years I’d done enough preparation and self-education — I could begin in earnest to pursue “Our Better Future.” I was clear about what to do and how to do it.
Part of that pursuit was publishing 250 words every day — until the day before my biopsy. I figured the biopsy would be no big deal — I was wrong. I stopped the 250-words, focused more on the book and less on organizing, began the #PaulsCancerJourney series, and reduced my work hours. Now that the cancer threat has relented, I’m picking up where I left off.
I used to regularly publish snippets from Steven Pressfield’s “The War of Art.” Lately I’ve been working with a Reiki master — I recommended the book and she loved it. Central idea: If you attempt something positive you’ll encounter resistance. Resistance can be insidious (like getting cancer?) Resistance is, perversely, part of being human. Don’t take it personally, or as evidence of your true identity as a weakling, poseur, or flake.
There’s a dance between affirmation and intention; and resistance, distraction, and stagnation. Becoming a non-judgmental witness to your dance is part of self care.
The 250-words intention is part of my dance. With the new year I’m beginning again, again. The pieces connect my belief — that my efforts can increase the amount of goodness in the world — with that same belief in others. When I — and others — put those beliefs into practice we create a better future.
